5 Must-Do’s Before Hitting “Publish” on Your Website

Hey there, future website owner!👋🏻👋🏻

So, you’re about to dive into the wild world of website design, huh? It might seem like an overwhelming task that’s going to gobble up all your free time. But hey, I’m here to back you up and steer you through.

How about we start with some deep breathing?

Inhale…exhale… and get ready to celebrate your soon-to-be-awesome website with a yummy Starbucks treat (and hey, let’s ditch those yoga pants and put on some real jeans for the outing🤭)

Before you start dreaming of that frothy latte, there are a few must-dos to tick off your list to get your website ready for its grand debut.

5 Must-Do’s Before Hitting ‘Publish’ on Your Website:

1️⃣ Make your business name clear & visible

Or if you use your personal name instead of a business name, make that name whichever it is easy to see. I suggest the very top of your website in the navigation area is an absolute necessity for 99% of websites. This is super important for branding and helps your visitors know whose digital world they’ve just joined.

If you need an example, check out the Belle Mina Showit template here.

2️⃣ Write a short tagline for your homepage

Whip up a short & snappy tagline that shows off what you do and who you’re here to serve. This tiny sentence can give your visitors a clear snapshot of your mission and what you’re all about. Take a peek at my website to see an example!

3️⃣ Don’t forget to throw in a pic of yourself!

It might sound insignificant, but trust me, it’ll create a connection with your audience. Adding a personal pic to your work doesn’t just make it feel more real and relatable, it also helps you connect with your audience on a deeper level. It’s like giving them a face to match the words, creating a cozy vibe of familiarity and trust. So don’t brush off the idea of a good pic.

4️⃣ Make sure you have standout call-to-action buttons

Imagine these as your website’s visual tour guides. They are there to gently guide your visitors through your website, steering them towards what you want them to do next. It could be signing up for a newsletter and getting some cool freebies, subscribing to a service you offer, or making a purchase from your online shop of awesome products. It’s all about making sure your visitors have a clear path to follow and making their journey through your site as enjoyable as possible.

5️⃣ How about a freebie?

Offer something so irresistible that your audience can’t help but want it — It could be a free guide, a handy checklist, a Canva template, or whatever you think your audience will love. (This little gem can also serve as bait for visitors to drop their email, helping you grow your squad!👊🏻)

So, before you hit the publish button in a flurry of excitement and run off to take a joy walk through Target with your celebratory Starbucks, make sure you’ve ticked off these tasks!

This will ensure your website is not just good-looking, but also user-friendly and fun to explore.

Start off the new year with brand and website that converts clicks into raving followers (& customers!)

Perhaps you’re more of a do-it-yourself kind of person? No problem at all.

I have an array of resources stashed away in my shop specifically designed to aid self-starters like you.

From practical guides and tutorials to customizable templates, you’ll find tools that can help you navigate the branding process on your own, at your pace.

But here's what I WILL do:

  • Listen to you ramble about your business for an hour and somehow turn that into a brand strategy.

  • Tell you the truth when something isn't working—even if you're emotionally attached to that one color.

  • Make you feel like you're not crazy for caring this much about whether your Instagram grid looks cohesive.

  • Pull that vision out of your head that you've been trying to explain to people for MONTHS and go "oh, like THIS?" and you're like "YES EXACTLY HOW DID YOU KNOW."
